On July 1, 2015, Seven Days published an essay by Erik Esckilsen titled “Bernie Sanders and the Pothole Bandit,” in which he describes a curious incident that took place in Burlington, Vermont, in 1986. The incident is also documented in the video below and in this interactive story map that accompanied the Web edition of the essay. This obscure episode in the political life and times of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders was not too obscure for two other media outlets to pick up from Seven Days and carry forward: Here’s an MTV News piece and a Bandwagon podcast that extend the original Seven Days story.
